Day 2: The Hall of Independence 21/11/2018

Today our group visited the Hall of Independence. At first we listened to a guide who told us about how Tel Aviv was built up and explained to us the development from sand dunes to a metropole.

The Hall of Independence
After we had watched a short film about the Zionistic movement the guide took us into the actual hall which used to be an Art gallery. In the year of 1948 the provisional government turned it into a meeting room, because it was the safest building they could find in Tel Aviv. Here, Ben Gurion, later on the first prime minister, declared the Independence of the State of Israel. An incidence where upon many wars followed.
We heard the original soundtrack of the Declaration that finally ended with the National Anthem. We had to stand up while it was playing...with ambivalent feelings we left this special location and first had to take a small break.

In the early afternoon we met at school again. For three hours we worked on our project in the different groups. The musicians went to their rooms and the film students went into the auditorium to work on the script for the screen-play.
At this point a few words about our project: Ou topic this year is ARCHITECTURE
Although Tel Aviv and Overath and also Cologne are very inspiring concerning all different kinds of architecture  -  it is really difficult to put it into a story plot for our short film and to find an agreement on that in the end..... Some want an action film, some a love story, some a crime story others prefer a comedy. The discussion on this controversial subject will go on tomorrow.... ;-)

After the film and music workshops we all came together played a real funny game. Every Israeli was sitting in front of a German and we had just one minute to talk about a special topic that was given to us, like "love", "music", "our dreams" or "where and who we will be in ten years" ...

After talking the Israelis moved to the next partner and talked about the next topic. Some people at first didn’t like the game, but in the end it really broke the ice.

Funny games

It feels like the beginning of a great exchange.

Good night!

Shalom!
